Worker Killed When Woman Loses Control of Car

Sadly, on May 7, a worker mowing grass was killed on the median of State Road 528 in Brevard County after a driver lost control of her vehicle and hit him.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the accident occurred when a 25-year-old Orlando resident lost control of a Nissan vehicle near mile marker 24 eastbound. The vehicle reportedly drove onto the median grass and hit the back of the victim’s lawnmower.

The victim, a 46-year-old Orlando resident, fell off the lawnmower and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Charges against the Nissan driver are pending. It remains unclear whether the victim was working for a local municipality or if he was independently employed.

Reaching Out to an Attorney about a Fatal Workplace Accident

Although this accident remains under investigation, it shows that transportation accidents can cause workplace fatalities. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in 2013, transportation incidents were responsible for 40 percent of all workplace fatalities.

Even though it may be difficult in the aftermath your loved one’s death, it is smart to speak to an attorney about your legal rights. Our Orlando injury lawyers can investigate an incident and determine if you are entitled to certain workers’ compensation death benefits. If another party was involved (this is common in transportation accidents), you may be able to file a third party or wrongful death lawsuit.

Following a death, you will need to talk to someone about the legalities surrounding the incident, so that you can hold those guilty of negligence accountable.

It is tragic when families lose loved ones in fatal workplace auto accidents. To reach our Central Florida workplace accident attorneys, you can fill out the free case evaluation located on the side of this page, or call us directly at the number listed above.
