An Uber Car Accident in Orlando Resulted in Passenger’s Death

Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a recent car accident between a Sheriff’s deputy in a patrol car and an Uber driver. Both cars entered the intersection at State Road 434 and Ronald Reagan Blvd. before the deputy T-boned the Uber driver’s Volkswagen.

The deputy, his passenger, and the driver of the Uber vehicle all sustained injuries but survived. The Uber driver’s passenger, a 28-year-old Orlando resident, was not as fortunate. He was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center soon after arrival.

Police have not yet discovered which of the two drivers was responsible for the accident, but it is clear that one of them ran a red light. The investigation is ongoing.

Wrongful Death in Car Accidents

“I need to find out why my child died,” said the victim’s mother. “Just 28 years old.  He didn’t do anything wrong.  He did the right thing, he got a cab to go home.  If the impact was not so severe, he might have lived.”

Many families who have lost a loved one have similar questions. It’s natural to want to know what happened and who is responsible. A personal injury attorney may be able to help you get some measure of justice for the wrongful death of a loved one.

Any of the following could be named as potential defendants in a wrongful death case.

  • Other driver
  • Builder/designer of a faulty road
  • Person/business that overserved alcohol to either driver
  • Car manufacturer/distributor/mechanic
  • Local government for lack of warning signs

Who Can File a Wrongful Death Claim?

A wrongful death claim must be filed by a third party, such as a personal injury lawyer, on behalf of the victim’s survivors. The plaintiffs in a wrongful death case may be any of the following:

  • Immediate family
  • Financial dependents/life partners
  • Anyone who suffers financially
  • Parents of a deceased fetus
