With warm weather and abundance of water, Central Florida offers residents a variety of recreation options over Memorial Day weekend.
Some people choose to visit the coast and beaches, while others boat or have cookouts. Last year, the Orlando Sentinel had a great piece about what families can do to ensure their safety over Memorial Day weekend:
- If you are going to the beach, remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and swim by lifeguards. Additionally, make sure that you arrive early, as parking spots on the shore may be limited later in the day.

- If you are having a cookout or pool party, make sure that you have adults monitoring the behavior of all children at all times. Additionally, have flotation devices available for those who may not be strong swimmers, and check your chlorine and pH levels prior to allowing people in the pool.
