A tragedy shut down a major thoroughfare in Orange County recently after a crash involving five cars, two of them stolen. Officials have said that the five-car accident was the result of one of the drivers running a red light. Unfortunately, the intersection where the crash took place had no cameras to capture the incident.
Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said in a statement, “a red Mazda SUV that was traveling southbound on Apopka Vineland (Road), that driver has given a statement to investigators that he was traveling southbound, had a green light, entered the intersection and was struck by the white Lexus. After that collision the SUV impacted a blue Chrysler, killing the female driver.”
Following the initial crash, the Lexus then hit another car, a Nissan, before the Challenger entered the intersection and hit the same car again.
The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The Nissan Driver sustained minor injuries. The driver of the stolen Lexus was also hospitalized in critical condition. The two occupants of the Challenger fled the scene with no injury, and have not been located as of yet.
Multiple Car Crashes
Car accidents involving more than two cars are not uncommon, and they are extremely dangerous as we’ve seen evidenced in the incident above. The driver that was killed had not even been involved in the initial hit. Multi-car pileups often occur due to a number of variables such as reduced visibility from fog, rain, or snow. These multi-car accidents can also happen in busy areas and intersections, as it did in the recent incident.
If you are involved in a multi-car crash, it can be hard sometimes to determine who is at fault. Consult a personal injury attorney soon after so that they can conduct their own investigation and fight to ensure that the truth is found, justice is served, and you are awarded what you need to recover.
