Could I Get Hurt at Disney World?

As we reported last week in our blog, in 2011 alone, more than 1,400 people were injured in amusement park ride accidents in the U.S.

Unfortunately, many theme park injuries occur in Florida, where there are destinations like Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort. Last week, the Orlando Sentinel had an interesting report about death and injury incidents from the previous year at these resorts.

The paper reported that one woman, 54, lost consciousness after riding Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Another woman, 22, with a pre-existing condition, lost consciousness after riding It’s A Small World on Christmas Day.

Florida’s Bureau of Fair Rides releases reports each quarter about theme park accidents. Aside from the deaths, Disney reported nine other incidents at its resorts.

Other Notable Injury Incidents at Disney Parks

According to the Sentinel:

  • A 64-year-old woman fell and fractured her leg while stepping off the Prince Charming Regal Carousel at Magic Kingdom.
  • A 49-year-old man tripped while exiting and fractured his shoulder after riding the Mad Tea Party at Magic Kingdom.
  • A 51-year-old woman suffered from memory loss and dizziness and later lost consciousness after riding Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Rock N Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith.
