Do Florida Drivers Have Ample Auto Insurance Coverage?

Did you know that Florida is one of the worst states in the country when it comes to financial risks for drivers?

According to the South Florida Business Journal, a study performed by a finance website discovered that Florida is one of the worst states when it came to risks for drivers, as many people have inadequate auto insurance coverage.

The Business Journal reported that a study done by WalletHub.com found that 23.8 percent of Florida residents do not have auto insurance. Additionally, Florida has very relaxed liability requirements, including limits of only $10,000 for personal injury protection, $20,000 for bodily injury coverage per accident and $10,000 for property damage coverage per accident.

Many experts claim that these totals are simply not high enough. The only state with a higher percentage of uninsured drivers is Oklahoma at 25.9 percent.

“Florida has the worst combination of lots of uninsured drivers, and low-minimum requirements for drivers who do have insurance,” Karl Eisenhower, WalletHub’s managing editor, said, according to the Business Journal.

How Do I Know Which Auto Insurance Coverage to Purchase?

Keep this information in mind, when you are shopping for auto insurance. Not only will you want to have enough coverage for yourself, you will want to have coverage for your passengers and protections in place against other drivers on the road.

Remember, there are various coverage options associated with auto insurance, including:

  • Bodily Injury Liability Coverage
  • Property Damage Liability Coverage
  • Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Bear in mind, the less money you pay for a policy, the worse off your protection probably is in the event of an accident.

Additionally, it should be noted that Florida is one of the only states in the country that requires personal injury protection (PIP) insurance for all drivers.
