Do you take dietary supplements? If you do, you should probably take note of the ingredients and speak to your physician about side effects
Recently, CBS News had an alarming story indicating that many dietary supplements sold as weight loss and muscle building products have dangerous prescription drug ingredients and may still be for sale years after safety recalls.
The news source reported that researchers recently tested 27 previously recalled supplements, finding that 18 contained ingredients not approved for over-the-counter use, while 17 still had the same drug that prompted the recalls.
Researchers said that this is a well-known problem, and that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration needs to expand its role in regulating supplements.
Now, supplement manufacturers can sell products without the same trials or scrutiny prescription drugs are held to. Supplement recalls are usually voluntary, and only done when large-scale complications are reported.
It should be noted that defective dietary supplements have been linked to liver damage, kidney failure and even wrongful death.
Can I File a Lawsuit If a Defective Supplement Has Injured Me?
Many attorneys offer assistance to victims and family members who have been harmed because of defective products. This includes products like dietary supplements, which may have been recalled over makeup issues.
