Unfortunately, wrong-way car accidents are often devastating, resulting in serious personal injuries and death.
In fact, passengers and drivers involved in wrong-way accidents are 27 percent more likely to die in them than standard accidents. These accidents can occur for a number of reasons, including drunk driving, debris in roadways, defective auto parts, confused drivers and medical emergencies.
Sadly, according to Florida Today, a young mother and her toddler, as well as the driver of the vehicle they occupied, were killed on December 14 in Orange County when they were hit head-on by another vehicle going the wrong-way.
The victims were identified as Brevard County residents — 20-year-old Paige Altman of Titusville, her 2-year-old daughter, Kyleigh Altman, and Cameron Greene of Cocoa.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that a 32-year-old Orlando man driving a GMC sport utility vehicle the wrong-way down SR 50 struck their vehicle. The Orlando man was also killed.
The victims were reportedly Christmas shopping prior to the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
